Socotra Sparrow (Passer insularis): The Socotra Sparrow is an endemic passerine bird found only on Socotra Island. It's one of the most widespread resident birds on the island.
Socotra Starling (Onychognathus frater): The Socotra Starling is a glossy black bird endemic to Socotra, notable for its contrasting rufous wing patches visible in flight. This species often nests in Dragon Blood Trees and plays an important role in seed dispersal for these iconic plants.
Socotra Sunbird (Chalcomitra balfouri): The Socotra Sunbird has a mostly brownish plumage with distinctive markings, and it frequently feeds on nectar as well as insects and fruits. It is typically found in shrubby vegetation and areas with abundant blooms.
Socotra Buzzard (Buteo socotraensis): The Socotra Buzzard is a raptor species, often observed soaring over cliffs and plateaus.
Socotra White-eye (Zosterops socotranus): The Socotra White-eye is a small endemic songbird characterized by its greenish plumage and distinctive white eye-ring.
Socotra Bunting (Emberiza socotrana): The Socotra Bunting is a rare, brownish passerinebird with boldly striped black-and-white head, bright chestnut wings, and buffy breast. Its population is very small, and it is considered Endangered due to habitat degradation and limited range.
Socotra Warbler (Incana incana): The Socotra Warbler is the sole species of its genus. It is a small, inconspicuous bird and will make a harsh "tek" sound.
Socotra Cisticola (Cisticola haesitata): The Socotra Cisticola is a small, cryptically colored warbler and is commonly found in shrublands and grasslands. It is easily confused with the Socotra Warbler.
Socotra Grosbeak (Rhynchostruthus socotranus): The Socotra Grosbeak is a robust finch with a strong bill and striking yellow wing and tail markings. It is widely distributed in woodlands.
Socotra Scops Owl (Otus socotranus): The Socotra Scops Owl is a tiny, pale gray owl endemic to Socotra Island. It is the only resident small owl on the island. Its most distinctive feature is its unique and resonant two-to-three note call.

Welcome to Socotra! This 8-day Socotra bird watching tour begins with a warm welcome from your private tour guide and driver at Socotra Airport. You will be transferred to the hotel in Hadibo for checking in and a break.
After lunch, you can begin your birdwatching adventure in Socotra in Hadibo and the nearby coastal plains. You may come across the common urban-adapted species, like Egyptian Vultures, or migratory wintering birds, like Sooty Gulls.

Today, you will enjoy birdwatching in Socotra's Dragon Blood Tree Forest. In the morning, you will venture to Homhil Protected Area, which is renowned for the iconic endemic plants, such as Dragon Blood Trees, frankincense trees, and bottle trees.
Homhil Protected Area is also one of Socotra's premier endemic bird habitats for rare endemic species and migratory raptors. You will explore the Dragon Blood Tree Forest, the frankincense tree forest, and the rocky cliffs for birdwatching and bird photography. You will have ample time to capture the vivid moments of these rare birds in their natural state.

Today, you explore the central highlands of Socotra, embarking on a full-day bird watching at the most famous endemic birding location on Socotra Island. Starting with wildlife observation in the vast Diksam Plateau before continuing into the spectacular Firmihin Dragon Blood Tree Forest.
The vast expanse of Dragon Blood Trees looks like huge umbrellas, spreading out across the wilderness, which forms the most distinctive and alien-like scene on the island. The Dragon Blood Tree forests offer some of the island's best bird photography settings. Lunch is enjoyed under the shade of ancient trees, providing a memorable wilderness experience.

A second full day dedicated to Firmihin Forest to observe wildlife. We prioritize quality over speed by staying in the island's premier endemic birding habitat. Our local guide will lead you through the forest, searching for the unique birds that move among the tree canopies and rocks.

After breakfast, you will transfer to Ayhaft Canyon (also called Wadi Ayhaft National Park), a dramatically different ecosystem from the highlands. This lush canyon environment provides water sources and dense vegetation, attracting species not commonly seen in drier regions.
Here, you may encounter several birds endemic to Socotra, like the Socotra Sparrow, Socotra Golden-winged Grosbeak, the Socotra Warbler, and more. Besides endemic birds of Socotra Island, Ayhaft Canyon is also home to unique flora, such as Socotra cucumber trees and frankincense trees, along with endemic reptiles like the Socotra chameleon.
After the birding session, you will have the chance to enjoy a refreshing swim in the natural water pools in the canyon.

Today, you will observe wildlife at Wadi Shoq (Shoq Canyon), a verdant, palm-lined canyon. It is renowned as one of the best locations for locating the Socotra Scops Owl. The Socotra Scops Owl is a small, nocturnal owl species endemic to Socotra Island. It inhabits shrublands and wooded areas, particularly palms.
During the day, you will hike along the lush, untouched trails to observe birds, like the Socotra Warbler, the Socotra Cisticola, and the Socotra Sunbird. After dinner, follow your tour guide to the palm woodlands and search for the Socotra Scops Owl.

Today, you will travel to the western coastline of Socotra, including the famous Detwah Lagoon. Detwah Lagoon is a paradise for birdwatchers in Socotra Island and one of the island's most important coastal wetland ecosystems. The lagoon's turquoise waters, white sand beach, and tidal zones create ideal conditions for seabirds and migratory species.
If sea conditions are favorable, an optional boat excursion may be arranged to observe marine species and birds. The afternoon will be kept flexible for any missing endemic species and final photography opportunities.
